Communities Unite in Remembrance as Katie Shober Honors Late Sister Emily Houska
Communities across Huntington Beach, Chicago, Myrtle Beach, and Kenilworth are joining together in remembrance as Katie Shober pays tribute to her late sister, Emily Patricia Houska.
Katie, known as the creator behind the popular platform Beach Reads & Bubbly, has been reflecting on the life and legacy of her sister, whose memory continues to resonate years after her passing. Emily Houska died in 2017 following a tragic crash on Oxford Road in Kenilworth. She was just 23 years old.
Remembered as a vibrant, compassionate, and deeply loved young woman, Emily left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her. She was the cherished daughter of Dan and Michelle Houska, and a beloved sister to Katie and Sara. Family members described her as someone who loved “to the moon and back,” a phrase that has since become synonymous with the way she was adored.
Emily was also a devoted granddaughter, cousin, and friend—someone whose circle of connection extended far beyond immediate family. Those close to her often described her as a caretaker at heart and a best friend to many.
In honoring her sister, Katie has shared reflections that highlight not only the pain of loss but also the enduring bond they shared. Through her platform and personal tributes, she continues to celebrate Emily’s life, keeping her spirit alive in the hearts of followers and loved ones alike.
Emily’s legacy is also reflected in the causes she cared deeply about. In lieu of flowers, her family encouraged donations to organizations such as The Center for Youth & Family Solutions and Volunteers of America—groups that align with her compassion and commitment to helping others.
As Katie remembers her sister, communities near and far are standing with her, honoring Emily’s life and the lasting imprint she left behind. Her memory continues to inspire love, kindness, and connection—values that defined her in life and endure beyond it.
