Fairview High School Lockdown: Active Shooter Threat Campus in Boulder, CO.

Fairview High School Lockdown: Active Shooter Threat Campus in Boulder, CO.

Fairview High School was placed under a temporary lockdown Friday afternoon after a reported active shooter threat prompted a large response from law enforcement.

According to Boulder Valley School District RE-2, officials received information about a possible threat shortly after midday and immediately contacted the Boulder Police Department. Out of an abundance of caution, officers conducted a full sweep of the school building while students and staff were instructed to remain inside classrooms.

The school was placed in a “SECURE” status around 12:43 p.m., meaning all exterior doors were locked and no one was allowed to enter or leave the building. Students participating in outdoor activities were brought inside as a precaution, while instruction continued within classrooms.

As the investigation expanded, Southern Hills Middle School was also placed under SECURE status at approximately 1:16 p.m. due to its proximity to Fairview High School.

Authorities urged parents and the public not to come to the campus during the response, allowing emergency personnel to safely assess the situation.

By 1:37 p.m., officials announced that both schools had been cleared, and the SECURE status was lifted after officers completed their sweep and determined there was no immediate threat.

The incident caused concern among families and the broader Boulder community, though officials emphasized that the measures were precautionary and part of standard safety protocols.

School district leaders said they will continue working closely with law enforcement and will provide updates if any additional information becomes available.
